Arizona Agates

Arizona is home to the most colorful Petrified wood in the world also known as "rainbow wood" and sometimes "bubble wood."

 

What I do know about Petrified wood is that it comes from the  Triassic period and is around 220 Million years old.

The following is a list of contaminating elements and related color hues:

• carbon - black
• cobalt - green/blue
• chromium - green/blue
• copper - green/blue
• iron oxides - red, brown, and yellow
• manganese - pink/orange
• manganese oxides - black/yellow

 

 I have yet to collect Petrified wood here in Arizona, most of the areas where collecting is allowed have been hit hard - or so I am told.
